Had a marvellous trip to America which i will post about at a later date.In the meantime i thought id show you some pictures of a recently prepped Phareodus Encaustus (denoted by its greater number of needle like teeth). This is a beautiful specimen with no restoration and stunning preservation across its surface.It measures 21 inches aprx in length which is a substantial sized fish though i have seen even larger specimens - in fact I've got some unprepped ones which may be even larger (ill do a prep job on one of these and record the progress as i go, i usually do large fish purely manually but ill also show acid prepping techniques at a later date). Im just about to commence prepping some green river fish so I shall select some specimens for a demonstration of how its done, in the meantime I shall leave you with a gallery of Phareodus images - hope you enjoy them!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7382703032759310785-2022851595035919018?l=westendfossils.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>ALTERKNIGHThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09162699128019804531noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7382703032759310785.post-33643742401599893412008-01-20T09:58:00.000-08:002008-06-12T11:32:47.035-07:00On the 30th of jan the alterknight and his trusted cavegirl will be flying off to the good old u.s. of A. for a little bit of business and a lot of pleasure.The business part is attending the gem and fossil show in Tuscon, arizona the largest show of its kind in the world and without doubt the most spectacular display of minerals,meteorites,gems,jewelery,FOSSILS and ephemera you will ever see in your life, all spread over a huge number of hotels and halls.If you ever get the chance to visit it you most definitely will not be disappointed and Tuscon itself is a great city (reccomend you check out a bar called the MEATRACK run by a very colourful charachter and friendly barstaff).Hopefully i shall post some pics when i return to give you some idea of what its like!
